Data centers are amongst the most-talked about investment targets in real assets today and both real estate and infrastructure investors are seeking entry points to the asset class. McKinsey is forecasting the European demand for data centers to grow from 10 GW today to 35 GW by 2030, driven by both cloud and AI adoption. In the presentation, Timo Pohjanpalo, the CFO and founder of Hyperco, a Finland-based large-scale data center developer, walks through latest trends in the asset class and how to think about it from an institutional investor’s perspective. We will discuss parallels to renewable development, challenges and opportunities in the sector as well as the nuances of the asset class.

Timo Pohjanpalo is the Chief Financial Officer and co-founder of Hyperco. Hyperco, a Nordics-based data center developer, was founded in 2020 by three real estate private equity professionals and is backed by institutional capital. Prior to founding Hyperco, Mr. Pohjanpalo worked for four years as an investment professional working on real asset development across various asset classes at NREP, the Nordic’s largest real estate private equity fund. Prior to NREP, Mr. Pohjanpalo worked for three years in management consulting at Bain & Company in Helsinki, Stockholm and New York. He holds a Master’s degree in Finance (with honors) from Aalto University School of Economics.
