CFA Society Finland Research Challenge season 2023 was kicked off 1st November

It is always a very exciting time for our Society to start a new round of a Research Challenge local competition. This year the kick off event was held virtually and included the subject company presentation.

There are eight teams participating in the competition from six Finnish Universities: Aalto University, Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, Lappeenranta University of Technology, University of Eastern Finland, University of Turku (two teams), and University of Vaasa (two teams).

The event began by an introduction to CFA Institute, our Society and the CFA charter by our board president Toni Iivonen, CFA, followed by RC committee chair Markku Leppälä, CFA who presented the details of the competition to the students and volunteers.

The subject company for this year is Valmet, which teams start researching now as they prepare the written report of the company. We were happy to welcome Pekka Rouhiainen, Vice President, IR, to present the company with a thorough view into Valmet’s structure and future perspectives.

After Valmet’s presentation our board member Onni Hautala, CFA had a chance to ask some questions from Mr. Rouhiainen, to spark some ideas also among students. The students will have a chance for separate Q&A sessions with Valmet.

Refinitiv is a global sponsor of the competition and will be providing the students the Workspace platform for the duration of the competition. Thank you to Janne Virtanen, Customer Success Manager, Refinitiv, for showing how to use the platform and several ways you can do your own research.

We wish all the student teams the best of luck on the Research Challenge!
