Forecast Dinner 2023 was celebrated on February 9th

CFA Society Finland celebrated Forecast Dinner 2023 with a wonderful evening at Restaurant the Cock in Helsinki on 9th February. The evening was able to gather together close to 50 of our members, Forecast dinner being one of the most popular of our annual events.

The schedule consisted of an interesting program with topical presentation as well as going through the forecast results form last year and casting numbers for the year 2023, not to forget the delicious meal and pleasant networking between colleagues and friends. This year we also wanted to honor the memory of late Matti Kuhakoski CFA who unfortunately recently passed away. He was the second ever chairman of the Society and had a pivotal role in the establishment of the Society in Finland.

We were happy to welcome two guest speakers for the evening, Tuomas Välimäki, Member of the Board, Bank of Finland, and Antti Arasto, Vice President, Industrial energy and hydrogen, VTT. Mr. Välimäki spoke on the monetary policy implementation and current market conditions, especially in the Euro area. This is a really topical theme and of course well targeted at our audience eager to forecast economic scenarios for this year. On a whole other topic, we learned from Mr. Arasto how hydrogen can change our energy industry in future and what are both the benefits and challenges the world faces with new renewable energy technologies. Both presentations sparked much discussion from the audience, and time proved to be short for interesting themes like this.

As tradition at the event, we awarded two diplomas two well-deserving Society members.  As volunteer of the year Society board wanted to award Alexander Matyushkin, CFA. Alexander has been an active member and an important volunteer especially at the Research Challenge for many years already. This is greatly appreciated and we were happy to reward Alexander this year.

An exciting part of the evening is going through the forecasts from the previous year. The presentation always creates much amusement in the crowd, and especially times like these bring up interesting forecasting with the chosen indexes. As Forecaster of the year 2022 was crowned Tuukka Paavola, CFA . Definitely a great achievement Tuukka. Congratulations to both!

Thank you to all our members joining us for this terrific annual event, it was great to catch up. Special thanks to our board members Toni Iivonen and Juhani Häyrinen for hosting the event!

Hope to see you again at our next Forecast dinner!
