Macroeconomic Challenges and Scenarios-breakfast event gathered our members together early October

CFA Society Finland had the pleasure to host an event on the current macroeconomic challenges and developments. We gathered at Hotel Lilla Roberts in Helsinki, as around thirty attendees arrived to listen on the current economic conditions in Europe and globally, especially the situation in the UK and United States, including recent developments in China. There definitely are some hurdles to tackle and the audience was interested to hear what our speakers had to say on the various subjects we covered at this event.

Our board member Tuomas Hillukkala, CFA welcomed everyone to the event introducing also the speakers for the morning. The event started with an interesting dive into the global macroeconomic situation with Salman Ahmed, Global Head of Macro and SAA at Fidelity International. Salman spoke on the inflation, current interest hikes, volatility in the currency markets, the energy crisis and the likelihood of a recession in different areas, as well as the evolving turmoil in China.

After keynote speech Salman continued in a panel discussion added with local experts, Valtteri Ahti, Chief Strategist, Evli, and Juha Kilponen, Head of Monetary Policy and Research Department, Bank of Finland. We were happy to have our previous board president Antti Raappana, CFA moderating the discussion, which included various themes from the dynamics between monetary and fiscal policy, effects of energy prices and the war, movements in the labor markets, and the short and long terms views and indicators what we might expect going forward. We are truly grateful for all our speakers joining this highly interesting morning conversation that sparked a lot of questions and interaction from the audience as well.

There is definitely need for another event continuing on the theme later on, so watch this space!
