Niklas Kaskeala is Compensate's Chief Impact Officer. Compensate is combating climate change by offering everyone easy access to the highest quality carbon projects. Kaskeala oversees Compensate's sustainability approach, carbon project portfolio and advocacy efforts to reform the Voluntary Carbon Market. Kaskeala is also the founder of Protect Our Winters Finland, the Finnish affiliate of the international Protect Our Winters movement. Kaskeala has more than 15 years of experience in development, sustainability and climate change. Before joining Compensate in the summer of 2019, Kaskeala worked with CMI - Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, Save the Children, and the global development expert Fingo.


Opportunities and Challenges of the Growing Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) -presentation will concentrate on the following questions:

  • Why has the VCM seen exponential growth in recent years and how big will the market become

  • How do we ensure the growing market actually delivers real climate impact

  • What is the appropriate role of compensation in corporate carbon neutrality and net zero target
