2023 has so far seen hawkish central bank policy, slowly moderating inflation and various geopolitical challenges, which all have impacted the economy. Join us in this event to hear from industry experts on what the rest of the year and the beginning of the next one will bring with them. 

Holger Schmieding, Chief Economist, Berenberg, will be delivering the keynote speech as well as joining a panel discussion afterwards with Minna Kuusisto, Chief Analyst, Danske Bank, and Juha Niemelä, Head of Market Operations, Bank of Finland.

CFA Society Finland vice president Tuomas Hillukkala, CFA will act as the moderator.

Dr Holger Schmieding is Chief Economist at Berenberg in London. Before joining Berenberg in October 2010, Holger worked as Chief Economist Europe at Merrill Lynch, Bank of America and Bank of America-Merrill Lynch in London. Having studied economics in Munich, London and Kiel, he holds a doctorate from the University of Kiel. Prior to this, he also worked as a journalist at Westfälische Nachrichten in Germany, as head of a research group on East-Central Europe at the Kiel Institute of World Economics and as a desk economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC. In 2013, 2014 and 2015, he won the No 1 award for European Macro in the ThomsonReuters Extel survey.

Minna Kuusisto rejoined Danske Bank as Director and Chief Analyst in September 2021, covering global macro and emerging markets for Danske’s corporate and institutional clients. Having worked at Bank of Finland and Danske Bank during years 2011-2017, she has a strong background in monetary policy implementation, financial markets and global economy. Before rejoining Danske, Minna has worked in the field of development finance for four years, both at the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and at a government-owned development finance institution Finnfund.

 


Juha Niemelä is a Head of Market Operations department at the Bank of Finland and a member of the ECB's Market Operations Committee. The department is responsible for the preparation and implementation of monetary policy, management of foreign currency reserves and the management of the payment system. Before re-joining the Bank of Finland in 2019 he worked 10+ years at the pension fund industry in different roles. Managerial roles included Head of Fixed Income, Head of Alternative Investments and Head of Asset Allocation of a pension fund balance sheet. Before that, he worked as a portfolio manager both in banking sector and fund industry. He started his working career at the Bank of Finland, as a portfolio manager, in 1997.
