On Tuesday 11 October, the 2022 edition of the Mercer CFA Institute Global Pension Index will be released. The index provides a comprehensive comparison of 44 different retirement income systems, covering 65% of the world’s population, based on more than 50 different indicators.

Financial security in retirement is critical for both individuals and societies as most countries are now grappling with the social, economic, and financial effects of ageing populations. The pandemic, significant rates of inflation, and rapidly rising interest rates had also implications for pension systems. At the same time access to, and sustainability of, robust pension systems are key components to strengthening the structural resilience of the capital markets.
