CFA Society Finland was happy to welcome members and candidates for an outdoorsy evening of yard games and dinner on August 6th. The event was held in Tervasaari which is a cozy little island adjacent to central Helsinki. After a long pause of in-person events everyone was happy to enjoy the company of peers and friends in a park and afterwards a joint meal on the terrace of traditional “Tar Island” restaurant Savu. We were lucky with moderately clear skies as summer here in Finland may provide variable weather conditions.

The evening started with the traditional game of petanque after our host Matti Ilmanen recapped the rules for everyone new and old to the game. Everyone was excited to try their luck, and skills of course.

We also got to try “Mölkky”, a game sure to be familiar to many summer cottage and park goers here in Finland. A short introduction and everyone seemed to really get into the spirit of throwing a log and scoring points for each throw. Good sportsmanship and some refreshments made our game sessions fun and exciting.

After the gaming we moved our way to the nearby restaurant and enjoyed the offerings of a delicious international cuisine amid lively conversations, contemplating the global situation today and making plans for future.

This event concept was a new one for our society and was the replacement of the traditional Summer Kick off. As the evening was much appreciated for the ample time everyone had to catch up, we are excited to continue with a similar formula in the future.
