Important updates on the coming CFA exams
CFA Institute has made big changes to the administration of all three levels of the CFA exams. Level I exams start in a computer-based test (CBT) form in February 2021. Levels II and III will be transferred to CBT next year as well. The change to digital format has been motivated and partly accelerated to make the exams globally more accessible and convenient, to better align the exams with real-world professional situations as well as the due to concerns over health and safety.
CFA Institute has published a comprehensive FAQ page with important information on all of these changes. You can access the page here. All of this information has been sent in an e-mail to registered candidates beginning of August.
Here are some of the important new steps:
The Level I, II and III CFA® exams will shift from paper-based to computer-based testing starting in 2021. There are no paper-based examinations anymore in 2021.
The Level I computer-based exam will be offered four times per year: February, May, August and November.
The Level II and Level III computer-based exam will be offered two times per year. The timetable for these exams can be found here.
All candidates who have registered for—what is now—the final paper-based exam in December 2020 may stay with this option or switch to any of the available 2021 computer-based administrations. This switch has to be done by October 20th.
CFA Institute plans to hold exams in any location where they can meet the applicable public health and safety requirements. As of now Helsinki is an exam location in December 2020.
If you were postponed from June 2020 and the exam you subsequently registered for is postponed as well, you will have the option to defer again or to request a refund.
Registration is currently open for the February Level I exam.
Registration will be open on 20 August for all levels and all dates for 2021 computer-based exams.
The registration for the December 2020 exams closed on August 19.
All the registration options can be viewed here.
